The Dutch actor Fritz Wepper, well known as Derrick, passed away at the age of 82.
Munich, March 25, 2024 – Fritz Wepper, the German actor best known for his role as Inspector Harry Klein in the hit television series Derrick, passed away in an Oberbayern hospice on Tuesday at the age of 82.
Wepper started his career as an actor at a young age after being born in Munich in 1941. In 1959, he achieved his first significant breakthrough with the anti-war picture “Die Brücke,” in which he played the lead role.
International cooperation
Wepper took over Harry Klein’s role in Derrick in 1974 as inspector Stephan Derrick’s assistant (Horst Tappert). The show was a huge hit both domestically and internationally, and Wepper became well-known in the United States and Europe.
Before Derrick
Alongside Derrick, Wepper acted in a number of other movies and television shows, including as “Cabaret” (1972) starring Liza Minnelli and “Um Himmels Willen” (2002–2021).
Issues related to health
De letzten jaren kam Wepper met gezondheidsproblemen. He had heart surgery in 2021 and subsequently received a cancer diagnosis.
