Professional wrestler Michael Jones, known to fans as Virgil, has died at the age of 61.
Wrestling official Mark Charles III has verified the news on his Facebook page. Colon cancer and dementia were among the health problems Jones has been dealing with recently. December 2023 saw the start of a GoFundMe effort for him.
Although Jones started his career in the mid-1980s, his most well-known position was as “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase’s bodyguard in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
He would frequently stand discreetly behind DiBiase, helping him now and then during games. Wrestling referee Mark Charles III verified the information on his Facebook page. In the past few years, Jones has struggled with various health conditions, such as dementia and colon cancer. In December 2023, a GoFundMe campaign was started in his honor.
As a result of Virgil’s 1991 turn against DiBiase, Virgil was able to win at WrestleMania VII. After that, they kept up their feud for a while.
Virgil’s unique appearance and his devotion to DiBiase—which ultimately gave way to anger and betrayal—will live on in the memories of many fans. Fans everywhere will be saddened by his passing since he was a well-liked character in the wrestling community.
