Maren Morris Defends Taking Son to Drag Show: “It Was Completely Family-Friendly”
Maren Morris, a country music artist, is sticking with her choice from the previous year to take her kid to a drag performance. Morris, who was criticized at the time for her remarks, subsequently defended the event on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” describing the drag show as “completely harmless” and “family-friendly.”
Morris and drag queens performed together during a benefit event in Tennessee, which gave rise to the issue. Following the recent passage of a state law prohibiting drag performances near schools, Morris made the now-famous remark, “Tennessee, f—ing arrest me.”
Morris clarified on Clarkson’s program that one of the drag queens even danced with her onstage as part of the overall performance. She highlighted her son’s interest in the costumes and makeup, calling the setting “just amazing and fun.”
Morris wants to normalize drag for her kid because she views it as a form of artistic expression. She emphasized that the event was open to all ages and reiterated that it was a “family-friendly” experience.
Morris maintains her position despite the criticism she received for her early remarks. She thinks it’s critical that her son witness her advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. The singer says she will keep speaking up for people who don’t have a voice, even though she is aware that there may be criticism.
